Hi there,
I have always been an active and outdoors person growing up in the Caboolture/Elimbah/Beachmere area participating in long distance running, weightlifting, hiking, cycling, touch football, stand-up-paddle boarding, swimming and more but I always come back to yoga.
Yoga is unique in that it quickly identifies imbalances in the body and allows you, the participant, to adjust the level of intensity of your practice to your limits in range of motion, mobility or strength or even your mood. A physical yoga practice helps improve our strength, flexibility and stability but a complete daily yoga practice can increase muscle strength and tone, improve respiration, energy and vitality, cardio and circulatory health, concentration and focus while helping reduce stress, anxiety and depression, lower our blood pressure, assist with joint health, reducing pain and inflammation.
Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines which originated in India and aims to control (yoke) and still the mind. A great Sage called Patanjali said “YOGAS CITTA VRTTI NIRODAH” which can be translated to Yoga is the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind. This is the whole point to why we practice it - to stop the chatter that goes on inside our head, the non-stop thinking that clouds our perception of reality. Although the system of yoga is an ancient tool, it is just as practical and important in today's modern, fast paced society.
Yoga is not about touching your toes. It is what you learn on the way down.
– Jigar Gor
We all bring different abilities and limitations with us to our practice. It's important to acknowledge and respect our body's differences and limitations and celebrate our individual progression and growth. Or just turn up because yoga makes you feel good!
Whatever motivates you to join a class, I'm happy to guide and support you in your journey.
Warm regards,
Rachel
